We are called to be good stewards of the resources that have been entrusted to us. The capital campaign is funding the current repair of St. Luke’s iconic spire. In addition, the West Alabama entrance to the Westheimer Campus does not match the rest of St. Luke’s thoughtfully designed campus. New fencing and landscaping is needed.

The Day the Spire Was Raised

“I’ll never forget the day they raised the spire. Durwood was out of the city, and Jon Hugh and I decided to get stereo pictures of each phase of its hoisting. Even then, we knew it to be history-making! It was BEAUTIFUL and SOARING! Pointing delicately heavenward it was a symbol of a loving and giving congregation of people who gave not only money, but of themselves.

I was driving a carpool coming up Westheimer. Way out about Voss Road (it was way out then), we saw the Spire exactly centered in Westheimer (this before other buildings were built that obscured the view). One little boy said: “Hey, look, there’s a launching pad or a rocket.” One of our little St. Luker’s quickly replied: “It looks like a church spire to me.”

Pray God, the children will always see a church spire in their lives as we and our children were privileged to be a part of building a church during our lives.”
